Bishop Mambo jailed 9 months but given K25,000 reprieve

The Supreme Court has handed Bishop John Mambo a nine-month jail sentence for contempt of court but has given the outspoken clergyman an option of paying K25,000 if he is to walk to freedom.

Bishop John MamboThis is in a matter where Bishop Mambo, who the Civil Society Constitutional Agenda (CiSCA) Board Chairperson, was facing a contempt of court charge for writing a letter to the Chief Justice accusing some Supreme Court judges of corruption.

His letter was in relation to the Savenda Vs Stanbic Bank case in which the bank won an appeal at the Supreme Court.

Bishop Mambo’s co-accused, anti-corruption activist Gregory Chifire and journalist Derrick Sinjela, were slapped with 6-year and 18-month jail sentences respectively.
