Chilima has on several occasions issued the rigging allegations. On his return from the UK, he said the ruling party will not succeed with the scheme because they are amateur.

Meanwhile, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has summoned Chilima to explain the authenticity of the allegations which has put the electoral body’s ability to hold credible and free and fair elections into disrepute.

These allegations are very serious. They have potential to discredit the election results. This is why we want the vice president to explain to us in detail on the issue,” said MEC chairperson of civic and media committee Moffat Banda.

However, in what can only be described as a judgemental stand by MEC, the electoral body has so far described as “shameful and unfortunate” Chilima’s claims before drawing out the evidence from what the vice president has to say.

Chilima who founded United Transformation Movement  (UTM) is currently in Nigeria for a Africa-Israel summit.
