CORONATION Street star Alex Bain has dumped his 16-year-old pregnant girlfriend leaving her to face a future as a single mother.
The couple announced they were to become parents earlier this summer and posted a scan of their unborn child but things have done horribly wrong since – and now they’ve split.
Levi Selby, 16, is being comforted by family and friends as she prepares to swap High School for parenthood.
A source told The Sun: “She was proud to tell the world she and Alex were going to be parents. But things haven’t been running smoothly between them and now he’s told her it’s over. Everyone’s hoping it’s not because he already feels tied down.”
Levi is due in December and is hoping Alex – who playes troubled teen Simon Barlow – will uphold his responsibilities.
She recently announced on social media that the couple are expecting a baby girl – but she is now preparing to go it alone.
She posted on Facebook: “Me and my little girl from now on. Can’t wait to start my life with her.”
Friends have rallied round Levi on social media.
Shonn Ford said: “Don’t need no one else, you’ll be a great mamma to that little princess.”
While pal Millie added: “It’s all gunna be okay, don’t waste any sleep over it cuz it’s not worth the stress the baby can probably feel what you’re feeling and she doesn’t deserve it, neither do you.”
Alex – who joined the ITV soap ten years ago – was said to have been spreading the news he was to be a Dad around school as he prepared to take his GCSEs.
Alex and Levi – who is not believed to attend the same school – had been together since April last year.
Alex’s portrayal of Ken Barlow’s grandson Simon saw him win Best Young Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2011. He has been nominated four more times.
On screen the actor’s character Simon has had a tough time.
His mum died, leaving him to be raised by alcoholic dad Peter, played by Chris Gascoyne.
He became physically abusive after he was adopted by stepmum Leanne Battersby.
And this year viewers have been shocked to see him mixed up with a violent gang.
Most recently Simon has been attempting to get back on the straight and narrow after being caught by police helping an old lady he and gang leader Tyler had tried to rob.
But Alex’s home life has been a far cry from his character.
He grew up in Blackburn with parents Debra and Paul and made his first television appearance in an ad for Rice Krispies.
A spokeswoman for Coronation Street declined to comment.
