A CURRY-flavoured tablet could spice things up in the bedroom by boosting women’s sex drive, a study suggests.

Female volunteers in their 40s, 50s and 60s reported feeling much hornier after taking two pills a day for two months.

They contained fenugreek — a common flavouring in Indian dishes that has been used in herbal medicine for centuries. Past research has shown it can give floppy fellas a lift and even boost sperm count.

Now experts at the Palacios Institute of Women’s Health in Madrid say it is not only blokes who may benefit.

They quizzed and scored 29 post-menopausal women on their desire, arousal, sexual satisfaction and orgasm frequency.

The women took a twice-daily dose of Libicare, a food supplement sold on the internet for £27 for 60 pills.

Researchers said the pill boosted “desire, arousal and orgasm”

After two months, doctors found the women’s sexual function scores had improved by an average of 25 per cent.

The biggest impact was on desire, with women much more likely to be in the mood for sex after taking the pills.

Experts think the spice works partly by driving up levels of the hormone testosterone, which can improve a woman’s passion.

Researcher Dr Santiago Palacios said the capsules boosted “desire, arousal and orgasm”.

The pills also contained other herbs, such as gingko biloba, which is thought to improve sexual appetite.

One in five women in Britain suffers low sex drive at some point, with libido often plummeting after the menopause.

A bigger trial involving almost 320 women is under way to see if the positive results can be repeated in larger groups of women. The findings are published in the journal BMC Women’s Health.
