A foot overbridge has collapsed near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station. ANI news agency reported that three people were killed and 34 others injured in the foot over bridge collapse. The wounded have been shifted to nearby hospitals.

The bridge was connecting CSMT platform 1 north end with BT Lane near Times of India building. Injured persons were being shifted to hospitals. Senior officials have rushed to the spot.

The rescue operations are currently underway. One team from Regional Response Center (RRC) Mumbai has been rushed to the spot.

Speaking on the incident, Maharashtra Minister Vinod Tawde said: “A slab of the bridge had collapsed. Railways and BMC will conduct an inquiry into its maintenance. The bridge wasn’t in bad condition. It required minor repairs for which work was underway. Why was it not closed until the work was completed? It’ll also be probed.”

BJP MLA Raj Purohit said that an action should be taken against the engineer who gave certificate to this bridge in auditing. “He should be arrested. He should be punished,” the MLA said while speaking to the legislator.
