Former Zambian tennis star turned tennis coach and sports administrator, Sydney Bwalya, who is based in United States of America is expected to run as a Member of Parliament in Mufulira in 2021, potentially marking his first attempt to capture a parliamentary seat.

Bwalya, who was born in Mufulira and worked for Mopani Copper Mines before relocating to the United States of America in 2000, is currently the president of the Mufulira-based youth sports program called Love-40. The program encourages and supports many young and talented children in Mufulira district to participate in sports with the major support from Mopani Copper Mines.

Sources close to Bwalya indicated that they expect him to stand although it was not clear which party he will represent.

Early last month, it was reported that football icon Kalusha Bwalya is also set to announce his intentions to run as Member of Parliament in Mufulira in 2021 on the PF ticket.
