Television presenter Kirsty Gallacher has spoken out about her battle since hitting ‘rock bottom’ following her divorce and subsequent driving ban.

The 43-year-old former Sky Sports presenter has had a torrid few years, which began with the “horrific” marriage break-up after her relationship with former rugby star Paul Sampson fell apart.

Her divorce in 2014 was followed by a drink-driving conviction in 2017, in which she received a two-year driving ban and now Kirsty has opened up about the devastating effect all this has had on her wellbeing.

Speaking to Natalie Pinkham’s In The Pink Podcast, the former Strictly Come Dancing star said that, “divorce is horrific. I’ve had a tough few years. I hit pretty much rock bottom at one point.”

Revealing the damaging effect to her mental wellbeing, Kirsty continued, saying: “My poor body and brain has gone through it. I’ve not coped very well.”

Kirsty felt that she was possibly trying to do too much and was overcompensating in the midst of the crisis in her life.

She added: “I was trying to be a great mum and keep it all going. I was pushing myself too much.”

Since the break up of her marriage, Kirsty has looked to find the perfect partner, which has seen her bounce in and out of a number of relationships that have not been fulfilling.

She has had romantic liaisons with England rugby star Danny Cipriani, 31, comedian Jack Whitehall, 30 and 40-year-old actor Laurence Fox but none have blossomed into anything more than brief encounters.

Kirsty continued: “When you split up with a long-term partner, you feel like you have to catapult yourself into another relationship.

“That’s what I did. They were lovely relationships, but they weren’t right.

“It’s part of the learning curve, but I was scared to be on my own.”

Kirsty has also admitted that some relationship advice given to her by Russell Brand, who is married to her sister Laura, has proved to be rather prophetic, despite initially shunning it.

She said that the former sex addict told her that some time on her own was the best remedy but Kirsty believed this to be nonsense.

Reflecting on it now, Kirsty has admitted, “sorry Russell, you’re correct.”
