Pep Guardiola has signed Mahrez for a club record £60million to take some of the attacking burden off Sane and Raheem Sterling’s shoulders and the German winger is a big fan.
Sane says he never liked facing him at Leicester and joked he would never tell him this because he doesn’t want to boost him too much.
“I’m happy he’s here,” he said. “Every time we played Leicester and he had the ball, I was like ‘OK, please don’t do anything creative’.
“I’m really happy that he’s now with us as he’s a really good football player. You can see it already. He’s a really good player and a really good person.
“But I can’t tell him that, then he’ll be stronger and take my place!”
Sane claims Mahrez’s arrival has made City even stronger because he has added to the depth in quality of their squad.
“To have that competition makes you stronger and better,” he said. “In the squad we have good players, who can play in your position. That all helps the team and that’s the most important thing.”
