Manuel Neuer has offered some advice to Marc-Andre ter Stegen following his comments on the Germany goalkeeper situation.

Ter Stegen was left frustrated during the international break after being left out of Die Mannschaft’s lineup for the matches against Holland and Northern Ireland.

The Barcelona stopper has been named as one of the three best goalkeepers’ in the world by FIFA for his performances in the last 12 months.

Ter Stegen deputised impressively for Neuer during 2017-18, with the Bayern Munich keeper out of commission due to injury.

But Neuer was rushed back for his country’s ill-fated World Cup campaign and the national team captain has since been Low’s undisputed No.1 pick.

Neuer has taken umbrage with Ter Stegen’s declaration

Ter Stegen admitted his unhappiness at the situation last week, and his international future under Low has subsequently been called into question.

Now Neuer himself has offered some pointed advice to his teammate.

Ter Stegen isn’t happy just playing second fiddle

“I think he’s a good keeper and he is performing well, but I’m not sure if that helps us,” Neuer told Sky Germany following Ter Stegen’s complaints.

“We are a team and should present ourselves as such.

“We have great goalkeepers. We have Kevin Trapp, Bernd Leno… these are all great goalkeepers who also want to play and then sit on the bench.

“We are a team. We have to stick together. The goalkeepers also have to stick together.”
