Neymar escape clause revealed: Barcelona move edges closer as date and exact fee of PSG release uncovered

Sport & Transfer News

Barcelona can pick up Neymar for €215m at the end of next season – that’s the shock news from Spain as the Brazilian’s move back to the Nou Camp edges closer.

The megastar left Spain to link up with the French champions Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2017 in a world-record €220million move.

Earlier this week it emerged that 26-year-old is said to have an agreement with PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he can leave the club at end of this season – for around the same price he joined.

Clubs and the player representatives stayed silent on the clause, but now respected Spanish outlet SPORT have confirmed one is written into the Brazilian’s contract. It confirms when he can leave and for how much.

However striker can only activate the release clause in 2020 – as long as a club can stump up €215m and do it on ‘friendly terms’ with PSG.

This revelation is fuelling the fire that he’s set for a shock switch back to the Nou Camp to line up with old pal Lionel Messi.

Real Madrid are desperate to land him, but Neymar only has eyes for Barcelona.

With a fee set for the end of next and the player desperate to leave, an agreement this season could be reached between the clubs earlier.

French sources are reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are said to have already have lined up his replacement in Atletico Madrid’s French star Antoine Griezmann.

And Mundo report that club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already talked to key Barcelona players in the dressing room about Neymar’s return.

The likes of Messi were consulted on how they feel if the Brazilian were to come back now it’s a strong possibility.

In-the-know former Barcelona full-back Juliano Belletti told the Spanish media last night: “I think that if Neymar came back to Spain, he would do so with Barça.

The Brazilian added: “I don’t think he will spend many years in Paris, but I don’t think he will go to Madrid. The relationship between Barça and Brazilian players is incredible.”

Earlier in the week sources close to Neymar laid out why he wants to go back to the Nou Camp – and it’s got a lot to do with Kylian Mbappe.

The French wonderkid has been in sensational form after winning the World Cup – scoring goals for fun both internationally and domestically.

And Neymar is worried the 19-year-old is overshadowing him, according to Mundo .

As a World Cup winning idol, and a Frenchman, Neymar believe more acclaim will go the speedy winger – especially as he’s so young and marketable.

For example last week Mbappe was on the front cover of Time magazine – one of the few footballers to be cover story. Neymar has never had that honour.

Neymar is finding it hard to get himself motivated for Ligue 1 games due to the standard of the league – especially as opponents attempt to target him.

But that’s not the only reason he wants to go back according to the Spanish source.

Neymar also misses his former Nou Camp team-mates, keeping in touch with the likes of Messi, Rafinha and Luis Suarez.

He also misses the size and grandeur of the Nou Camp – and the Mediterranean climate.

Last month Neymar reportedly asked Barcelona help him secure a move back to the club – but back then received a lukewarm response.

Neymar retains a good relationship with some of Barcelona’s staff and has reportedly spoken to one executive about a return.

But the La Liga champions were reluctant to bring the Brazilian back due to those who advise him – especially his father.

But with a set release clause written into his deal, that could change.
