Though it’s just a tiny stretch of fabric, the red swimsuit has gone down in history as one of the sauciest outfits of all time.
Of all actresses to have appeared on Baywatch, Pamela Anderson was the one to have earned the scarlet swimsuit it’s legendary reputation.
Starring alongside major names like David Hasselhoff and Carmen Electra, Pammy appeared on the show from 1992 until 1997.
In an interview with The New York Times on Saturday, the 52-year-old revealed she still keeps her old costume from the show in her wardrobe.
Even though it’s been over 20 years since she wore it on screen, the blonde bombshell admitted she still likes to wear it in front of her dates.
She told the publication: “’I jump in the shower with a bathing suit and then jump on them wherever they are in the house, soaking wet.”
The actress confessed the reason why the suit seemed so “sexy” was down to its miniature size.
Pamela explained: “’Some people bring me bathing suits to sign autographs on and they are these big bathing suits and I say, ‘Listen, my bathing suit was tiny’.
“It just stretched and pulled onto your body.”
Michael Berk, a creator on the series, told the publication that they never intended for the suit to earn such a racy reputation, but it was a happy accident thanks to the actresses’ lean physiques and their slow-motion running.
He said: “It was all about athletics and functionality. This was also the case with the famous slow-motion run.”
The swimsuit had one major downside, according to Pamela — the cut of the fabric left awkward tan lines after filming had wrapped.
Looking back on the series, the mum-of-two confessed it was as if she “wore a white one-piece when I was naked all the time”.
Fans of the show – and the famous swimsuit – are in luck, as a brand-new Baywatch documentary is in the works, featuring all of the show’s famous faces.
