Wayne Rooney is reportedly ditching booze in a bid to patch up his marriage with Coleen.
The Manchester United and England legend is said to be giving up alcohol full-time.
It has been claimed that a counsellor will help Rooney on his journey to become tee-total in the coming months.
Rooney will return to the UK later this year to take on a new role in football, as he becomes a player-coach with Derby County.
He has been living in Washington DC for the past year, playing in the MLS for DC United.
His relationship with Coleen has been reported to be rocky over recent times, with some of Rooney’s alcohol incidents playing a role in disagreements.
A source told The Sun: “Wayne was drinking a fair amount in the States and it was causing huge problems with Coleen.
“It was like he was on self-destruct — he was boozing at home late into the night.
“Now he’s moving back in October, he wants to sort it out for good.”
Among other incidents, Rooney was arrested at Washington airport following a flight from the Middle East in January for being drunk and disorderly.
Rooney has four children with Coleen – Kai, nine, Klay, six, Kit, three, and 18-month-old Cass.
The kids have been living in America with Rooney, but they have moved back to the UK with Coleen this summer ahead of Rooney’s full-time return.
It is claimed that Rooney is losing millions by moving back to the UK.
The Rooneys are expected to move into their £20million home in Cheshire, as soon as it has been completed.
Sources close to the family have indicated that Coleen was hoping to return to the UK, despite it meaning a huge drop in income, as she had felt ‘alienated’ in the States.
The source said Coleen insisted that Wayne “put her and the children first.” For his part, Wayne believes the cut in wages is “worth it to make her happy.”
Coleen is reportedly “settling the boys back in the UK permanently and has started the process of moving their belongings back.”
